Day 1- To The Mountains! - Meet your fellow travelling buddies and your local guides at the RV rental center, where we get set up with your home on wheels for the next twelve days. Once swe are all set, we depart Calgary with the Rocky Mountains on the horizon, arriving in Banff two hours later. We set up camp and feast on a locally sourced meal around a campfire, getting to know each other and enjoying some much needed social connection!
Day 2- Into the Canyon and Best of Banff! - We spend your first full day in the mountains making sure you get the full Banff experience on your self-drive tour of the Canadian Rockies. Expect to explore deep canyons, see pictographs, and the classic views of Banff, while we search for wildlife. In the afternoon you have time to roam around town exploring the shops on Banff Avenue.
Day 3- Kananaskis Hiking Adventure - Wake up to fresh roasted coffee and a hearty breakfast before setting off on a guided hiking adventure in Banff area. During the third day of your self-drive tour of the Rockies we head to Kananaskis Country for a guided hike in a remote mountain valley. We head up through forest with abundant wildlife, reaching a viewpoint where you can see peaks for miles in all directions. We stroll through alpine meadows, lush with wildflowers before heading back for a delicious campfire dinner.
Day 4- Hidden Trails of Lake Louise - Another day in paradise finds you snapping photos at Lake Loiuise and Moraine Lake in the soft morning light. Next we head off on a guided hiking trip along one of the lesser known trails in Lake Louise, escaping the crowds and getting some epic bird's eye views of the lake, surrounding glaciers and chateau. After your hike we fuel up and head a bit North to a secret little campground on the side of a beautiful lake that only locals seem to know about.
Day 5- Footsteps of Fur Traders! - Funny how sometimes the best spots get overlooked by the crowds! We spend today exploring the David Thompson area, learning about the fur traders who passed right by here as they connected the country from coast to coast, creating a trading empire that stretched across the world! If you are up for it you can go for another guided hike to a special area that used to be used for First Nation vision quests, or rest your legs while a horse does the worrk for you on a guided horseback tour. Head on down to the lake for sunset and watch the stars come out later!
Day 6- Ridges and Glaciers - So you know about glaciers and icefields and that they are disappearing and stuff, but have you ever seen one from close up?!?! They are huge! Today you are going to feast your eyes on an epic glacier and learn about on of the largest icefields in Canada! From where you stand on the continental divide, meltwater travels in three directions to three different oceans!
Day 7- Maligne Lake Hiking Adventure - The perfect day on a self-drive tour of the Canadian Rockies... we head down a picture perfect valley to Maligne Lake for a guided hike. Keep your eyes peeled for bears, which are frequently seen along the drive. We head into the alpine with astoundingly nice views of mountains stretching in all directions, with the brilliant blue of Maligne Lake stretching out below. Time permitting, we stop in a Maligne Canyon on the way back so you can learn about the erosive effects of water and take some amazing waterfall photos!
Day 8- Jasper, the Land of Emerald Lakes - Explore the best of Jasper National Park on your Rockies self-drive tour! Today you have the option to hang with your guides and hike the VAlley of Five Lakes, snapping photos of the five exquisite emerald lakes along the trail. If you prefer to venture out on your own, you can rent a bike and go for a ride that takes you past another several emerald lakes and some plains that often have elk in them. Either way you have some time to Explore the town of Jasper in the afternoon, before a mouth watering dinnerr around a campfire.
Day 9- Ultimate Icefields - We wave Jasper goodbye and head South along the Icefields Parkway, known as one of the most iconic and photographed roads in the world (and for good reason). No self-drive tour in the ROckies would be complete without some exploration along this beautiful stretch of highway. We stop to admire some of the pristine glacial lakes along the route, then duck into Yoho National Park for the remainder of your escorted RV tour in Canada! Time permitting, we stop for a scenic hike in Yoho and then get set up at our campsite in Golden for the next couple of nights!
Day 10- In Awe In Yoho - Yoho is a Cree (first nations) word for "Awe" amd that is just what you will feel as we explore the towering mountains, deep valleys and rushing rivers of Yoho National Park on your RV tour in the Rockies. Discover the world famous Emerald Lake, tucked away between some of the biggest mountains in the park, as well as Takakaaw Falls, which is the second highest waterfall in Canada! Take some time to explore the town of Field, which started as a railway stop and has become one of the most scenic towns to visit in Canada, before heading back to the cmapsite on the side of the Kicking Horse River.
Day 11- Rafting the Mighty Kicking Horse - You have the option to go rafting on the mighty Kicking Horse River with the top rafting operator in Golden, or hang back and explore some more of Yoho and Golden on your own or with your guide. You could check out more waterfalls, go on a guided day hike in Yoho National Park, or see the wolf sanctuary and howl with the wolves! Tonight we recall our favourite moments of the trip around the campfire and plan our next adventure and reunion ideas with our new friends.
Day 12- Calgary Bound - Wake up to a delicious breakfast before hitting the road, bound for Calgary. Today we drop your RV off at the campervan rental center in Calgary and exchange hugs before you depart. This is the end of your guided RV camping tour in the Rockies, and we hope to see you again soon!
