Vancouver Island Travel Information
When is the best time to visit vancouver island?
Vancouver Island is an incredible year round destination, though the summer months are by far the best Most people assume the weather is very wet on the west coast, though the summer months are actually very dry. Rainfall is quite rare between June and the end of September on the Island, and most of the region actually experiences a drought.
Temperatures are very mild being near the ocean, with the blistering heat of summer being mitigated by the cool ocean air. Expect 25-30 degrees Celcius, with a perfect summer breeze and brilliant blue sky above you. Temperatures at night stay quite warm, around 20 degrees Celcius. The weather on Vancouver Island makes it the ultimate place in Canada for guided west coast tours!
How to travel to Vancouver island?
You can get to Vancouver Island by air, car or foot (both car and foot require a ferry).
Air: You can fly in to Victoria for your Vancouver Island tour package from Vancouver and from international destinations. The airport is a reasonable taxi ride from the city center and we can pick you up from the airport on day 1 of your trip.
Car/ Foot: To get to the Island you need to take the ferry from Vancouver, arriving in Swartz Bay. You can park your car here for the week if you need to store it during your trip with us. We can pick you up from the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal at the beginning of your Vancouver Island tour.
What is the weather like on Vancouver Island?
Vancouver Island is the ultimate trickster, because you would expect the weather to be wet and kind of nasty year round. This may deter some people from visiting Vancouver Island, but jokes on them! The island actually goes through a drought through the summer months, making is a perfectly dry and sunny place to explore! You can expect 25-30 degrees Celsius during the day and 15 degrees Celsius at night. It very rarely rains during the summer months.
Tofino and the West Coast of the Island are definitely wetter and cooler during the summer months, but even there it is rare for rain to come during the summer. Expect more fog and temperatures 10 degrees cooler than the rest of the Island. This makes for the perfect experience on our Vancouver Island tours!
