Canadian Rocky Mountains guided hiking tour destinations
Below are some of the highlight destinations our hiking tours cover in the Canadian Rockies. All of our tours visit Lake Louise and feature some of the Icefields Parkway and Banff National Park. Some of our tours spend more time exploring deeper into the mountain parks, like Glacier and Kootenay National Parks, which are slightly off the beaten path but easily rival the most popular areas in the Rocky Mountains with their beauty, wildlife and hikes.
All of our organized walking tours in the Rockies are active by design and move through the wild landscapes to offer you the chance to experience a variety of features, from waterfalls and lakes to glaciers and mountains.
Banff National Park
Classic mountain landscapes made famous by the Group of Seven artists and early pioneering tourists are in store in Banff National Park. Many of the iconic attractions like Lake Louise and Moraine Lake are in Banff. This is the essential place to visit on any Rockies holiday.
Main Attractions: Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, Peyto Lake, Bow Lake
Jasper National Park
Home of the Columbia Icefields and Athabasca Glacier, Jasper National Park is just as famous as it is worthy. Our tours focus on the highlights in the south end of the park, as areas further north require a lot more driving and have been badly affected by fires and pine beetles over the past several years.
Main Attractions: Columbia Icefields, Athabasca Glacier
Yoho national Park
Towering Mountains, deep, dramatic valleys, thundering waterfalls are what Yoho is famous for. While Yoho is a smaller and lesser known park in the Canadian Rockies, it packs a punch that is sure to leave you in awe. In fact, “Yoho” is the local indigenous word for “being in awe”. Every one of our tours features a couple of days in Yoho and you will soon see why!
Main Attractions: Emerald Lake, Takakkaw Falls
Glacier National Park
Perhaps the toughest mountain range in Canada, Glacier National Park is the final place the Canadian Railroad managed to pass through. Massive glaciers, sheer mountains, lush alpine meadows and the world’s only inland temperate rainforest ecosystem make this a unique place. Plus it’s far from the crowds and virtually unknown to tourists and even most locals! The hikes here may just change everything for you!
Main Attractions: Alpine Hikes, Roger’s Pass Visitors Center
Kootenay National Park
Kootenay National Park is an often forgotten but never overestimated destination in the Canadian Rockies. The railroad steered clear of this region, so tourism never took off. As a result the landscape was left completely wild and unaffected by humans. As a result, the local ecosystem is completely natural and the wildlife love this! So do we. Kootenay NP features some fantastic hiking and extremely good opportunities to spot wildlife.
Main Attractions: Marble Canyon, Wildlife, Stanley Glacier
Kananaskis Country- Alberta Parks
Most people have never heard of Kananaskis and most tour companies aren’t familiar with the massive wildland area south of Banff National Park. But they should be. Kananaskis and the wildland parks around it are home to some of the most stunning landscapes in the Rockies. Most hikes here top many of the famous hikes in the Rockies. Dramatic peaks, sprawling lakes, wildlife and barely any humans are why we include this region in many of our guided hiking tours in the Rockies.
Main Attractions: Spray Lakes, Kananaskis Lakes, Wilderness Hikes
