What is a backpacking trip?

Backpacking is the ultimate form of hiking where you don’t have to be back at the parking lot by the end of the day. Imagine being able to wander into the wilderness exploring endless peaks, valleys and alpine lakes with nowhere to be but right where you are!

During our backpacking tours we carry everything on our backs so we have everything we need. When we reach somewhere too beautiful to leave we settle down and set up camp to enjoy ourselves in the ultimate beauty. Somedays we hike locally from our backcountry campsite and get up high for some otherworldly views, without having to carry everything with us. Other days we pack up our home in search of an even more beautiful one.

Backpacking tours are self sustained, human powered and immersive. They are the future of human interactions with the wild.

How fit do I need to be for a backcountry backpacking tour?

You will want to be fairly fit, but that’s not to say that you need to be a body builder or ultra-runner to come on our guided backpacking trips in Canada.

Your pack will weigh between 35 and 45 pounds, depending on how you pack and which backpacking tour you are on. Luckily the pack starts off heavy and gets lighter each day as you get stronger and the food gets eaten.

Expect to be walking and hiking for 4-7 hours each day. We do take lots of breaks and stop to admire the scenery and enjoy the journey. Since there are no distractions, it really doesn’t matter when we leave and arrive at camp, so the pace is quite reasonable.

What should I pack on a guided backcountry hike?

The short answer is everything you need and nothing that you don’t. The key is packing light and making everything you bring count when you need it. We will be including a more detailed packing list shortly.

Where do we sleep on backpacking trips in canada?

Wherever we want! Usually in the absolute best places you could possibly imagine. Have you ever found a secret little lake on Google Earth deep in the mountains that no one knows about? Well that’s exactly where you will be sleeping with your new posse on your guided backpacking trip in Canada!

Picture yourself set up beside an alpine lake, with views from your tent spanning out over mountain peaks as far as the eye can see. These mountainscapes are what get us through the week right?!

When is the best time to go backpacking in canada?

The best time to go backpacking in Canada is when it is warm and pleasant, which is also when we plan all our treks for. The last thing we want is being caught in a blizzard or wading through waist deep snow so we carefully plan our guided backcountry trips when hiking is at its best and you can truly enjoy. Think June through the end of September in a typical year. Of course it depends on the weather that week, day and minute so fingers crossed for some summer beauty!
