Camping in the Canadian rockies
During our guided hiking and walking tours in the Canadian Rockies, we camp at several campgrounds in Banff, Jasper and Yoho National Parks. The camping is very easy and comfortable, with expert guides to make sure you feel right at home. We prepare gourmet meals and pack a delicious lunch spread each day as well. The camping gear is provided on your tour and we show you the best ways to use it.
Camping in the Rockies is an incredible experience and allows you to soak in a ton of epic scenery. Imagine eating dinner around a campfire, watching the sun set across a lake, and star gazing from the comfort of your tent. The Rockies are the perfect place to camp with beautiful campgrounds and facilities to ensure your comfort. The campsites are well developed with hot showers, flush toilets and power outlets for your convenience.
how do our guided hiking trips work?
We have developed a unique way to do these tours that allow you to camp in the wilderness, but not have to carry a heavy load on your back during the hikes. Our tours visit a series of the best campsites in the Canadian Rockies in Banff, Jasper and Yoho National Parks, and exploring the best day hikes each area has to offer. This way you can explore more than one region and see a variety of natural landscapes on your hiking tour in the Rockies. We transport you in our van, with your luggage in our trailer. With our trailer we are able to provide a gourmet menu of fresh, locally sourced ingredients that would be difficult to bring on a backpacking trip. For the same reason you can bring along some alcohol if you wish to enjoy around the nightly campfire.
When is the best time to hike in canada?
Our guided hiking tours in Canada are mostly in the Canadian Rockies, which is pleasant for hiking from late May to sometime in October. We plan our guided tours for small groups from mid June to Mid September, making sure to capture the best weather of the season. The snow clears off the trails in early June, and you can be sure to have warm weather by mid June, with very sunny weather coming for July. Summer is at its peak in July and August, but the warm temperatures and sunny skies linger through September. As soon as the nights begin to cool down in mid September, the leaves and needles on some of the trees begin to turn a golden color, making for some unbelievable scenery that people travel from around the world to see.
Where are the best places to hike in Canada?
hiking vancouver and the coast mountains
Vancouver and the surrounding mountains are home to some incredible trails, ranging from lush rain forest strolls to heart pounding alpine grinds. The mountains on the coast are young, meaning that you can enjoy some truly dramatic mountain scenery on your guided hiking tour. There are several amazing hikes between Vancouver and Whistler, which we feature on our guided camping tour on the Coast, as well as our Vancouver and Beyond Hiking Tour with hotel stays.
hiking on Vancouver Island
Hiking on Vancouver Island is very underrated and highly rewarding. Again, you can choose between a variety of strolls along lake shores and through rain forests, or push yourself on some serious mountain hiking trails. The views from the top can be unbelievable, with the ocean stretching out, and a dramatic mountain landscape all around. Hiking on Vancouver Island is often through old growth forest systems, rich with berry bushes and mushrooms to investigate. There is also abundant wildlife so keep a lookout!
Hiking in the Canadian Rockies
Some of the best hikes in Canada can be found in the Rocky Mountains. The Rockies are home to hundreds of trails, ranging from scenic walks to multi day backpacking trips. The scenery is almost as varied as the trails, with glaciers, lakes, waterfalls, alpine meadows and caves as a reward for your hiking efforts. We have guided hiking tours in the Canadian Rockies each summer. Some of our hiking tours are hotel based, and some are camping based, like the tours on this page. We also have backpacking tours where you can camp in the backcountry! Check out the hiking guide on our website for some ideas on trails to try in the Rockies or join one of our guided hiking tours!
Who are these hiking tours suitable for?
Our guided hiking tours are for small groups and are suitable to a range of travelers. We plan on having two professional guides on each tour, so we can have a guide in the front of the group and a guide in the back of the group. This allows us to be really flexible with our hiking and walking pace, so you can rest assured knowing that you can hike at a pace that is comfortable for you and never feel pressured to rush. Our hiking trips cater to all skill levels and are completely beginner friendly. We do recommend having a reasonable degree of fitness, meaning that you can walk for a couple hours and hold a conversation while walking. Nothing major, if you are a somewhat active person, these hiking tours will be perfect for you.
Hiking tours for solo travelers
We are happy to offer the perfect guided hiking tours for solo travelers in British Columbia and Alberta. More than half our guests are solo travelers, so you will feel right at home on your hiking trip. We have no mandatory single supplements, which means that as a solo traveler you don’t need to pay any extra. We can pair you up with another solo traveler of the same sex. Of course, you can opt to upgrade to your own tent for the hiking and camping tour.
Small groups make for better hiking trips
We keep our groups small to ensure a high level of service and a fun family feel. With a maximum of 12 guests and 2 guides on each of these hiking tours for small groups, we can ensure that you are well taken care of and can enjoy a flexible, authentic adventure. With our small groups we can dodge crowded tourist traps and head out on the trail less traveled and discover the hidden gems of the Rockies.
